Belen Church Doctrinal Statement

This statement of doctrines is the basis by which we shall evaluate ourselves for doctrinal purity on major and essential doctrines, which we feel, are important to be believed by every member.

 A.    The Bible

We believe the Scriptures, the sixty-six books of the Old and the New Testaments, to be the verbal and absolute inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the infallible and complete revelation of His will for the salvation of all people, and the final authority for all Christian faith and life, and all truth.
2 Tim. 3:16-17; Pet. 1:20-21, John 10:35

B.    The Godhead

We believe in one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three co-equal persons: the Father, the Son (our Lord Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit.
1 Pet. 1:2; 2 Thess. 2:13-14; Eph. 1:3-14

C.     Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived as a man, was tempted in all points, yet without sin.  He died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins and was buried, arose bodily and ascended into Heaven, where at the right hand of the Father he is our High Priest, Intercessor, Advocate, and the head of the Church. We believe in His personal, imminent return for His redeemed ones, followed by His coming in glory to establish His Kingdom.

John 5:18; 10:30-31; Matt. 28:18; John 8:24; Matt 1:23; Heb. 4:15; Acts 1:9-11;  1 Cor. 15:1-9; 1 Tim. 2:5; Heb. 7:25; Eph. 1:22-23; John 14:2-3; 1 Cor. 15:50-58; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; Rev. 19:20-21

D.     Holy Spirit

We believe that the ministry of God the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age, to convict people of sin, seal, comfort, dispense spiritual gifts, guide, fill, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.
John 16:5-15; 1 Cor. 6:19; 12:13; Eph. 4:30; Rom. 8:14; 1 Pet. 4:10-122; 1 Cor. 12:8-10; Eph. 5:18

E.     Salvation and Justification

We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only avenue for salvation and provide the justification whereby all who come by faith to receive God’s grace (His Son, Jesus Christ) must repent and be baptized to receive eternal life.
